La misurazione dell’efficienza delle strutture ospedaliere rappresenta un tema ampiamente discusso nel mondo operativo ed in quello accademico, soprattutto alla luce dell’obiettivo di contenimento della spesa sanitaria perseguito a livello ministeriale e regionale. Il presente contributo, osservando dati di natura economica e tecnica, misura la performance conseguita da 40 ospedali operanti nella regione Veneto negli anni 2012 e 2013. Obiettivo primario del lavoro è quello di comparare la performance delle strutture pubbliche e delle strutture private, indentificando le cause organizzative ed ambientali alla base di una presunta superiorità delle seconde.

The performance measurement of health care units is a relevant and highly debated issue among practitioners and researchers, since the Italian National and Regional Governments aims to reduce the public expenditure incurred to finance the health care system. The current article measures the performance of a sample of 40 hospitals located in Veneto, through the collection of economic and technical variables for the period 2012-2013. The research aim is the comparison of performance between publicly and private owned hospitals, to identify those environmental factors explaining the supremacy of private units.
